My Approach

I believe that psychotherapy is a powerful tool for change, that can be used to work through specific life challenges, but can also enrich your life and your relationships with yourself and others through increasing self-compassion, self-understanding and insight. For me, psychotherapy provides a way of thinking about and facing some of life’s big questions, both personal and existential. As a discipline psychotherapy is interested in both our unique individual experience as well as our shared humanness, and the suffering and joy that come with life and human relating.
My approach to therapy is integrative and relational. I start with the assumption that no two experiences are the same and as such no two treatments are the same. I take an open and curious stance and work with each individual to develop a collaborative and genuine relationship, founded on safety, trust and mutuality. I see the therapeutic relationship as central component of the therapy process, providing a starting point for the exploration of your inner experience, your fears, concerns, longings and dreams.
I take the view that we are constantly adapting to our environment, that our early life and relationships shape the people that we become and that the past holds clues about our experience and our struggles in the present. I aim to help people identify repetitive and limiting ways of dealing in times of stress and opening new possibilities, hopes and futures. I work with a wide range of people and presentations from diverse population groups and identities. I work in both a short term (10-20 session) and long term (40 sessions +) capacity, depending on the presenting concerns.
